Sarah Nuttall and Achille Mbembe are both keynote speakers at the Association of Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies Conference, hosted this year by Stellenbosch University, 11-15 July.

Achille Mbembe will be discuss 'the new face of Africa' with Victor Kgomoeswana, Kevin Bloom, Richard Poplak, and Ruda Landman, at the Free State Literary Festival.

Sarah Emily Duff has contributed an essay to Issue 18 of Powision, the theme of which is 'difference'. Her piece is titled 'Children, Childhood, and the Making of Racial Difference in South Africa.'

Sarah Emily Duff took part in this year's Summer Programme in Social Science, held at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris in June. The Programme is run over three years, and hosts a group of young scholars from the global south. It is organised jointly by EHESS, the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, and the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study, Uppsala.
