The university spends a fortune on these database tools. They are extremely useful. The real value of the digital sources comes from collecting a large archive, and then examining it very critically to find the politics that is at work in events.
The overall purpose of this initiative is to infuse interdisciplinary perspectives, drawing on perspectives from law, history, economics, public policy, demography, and public health, to address the ethical and human rights challenges that are emerging as population register systems are modernized and digitized.
