The Art(s) of Forensics: A Cross-Disciplinary Conversation

Wednesday, 6 August

18:00-20:00

WiSER Seminar Room

Thomas Keenan (Bard College) will be in conversation with Sarah Nuttall (Director of WiSER), and Zanele Muholi (Inkanyiso Media).

Forensics is a type of methodological and theoretical investigation and uncovering that questions notions of what counts as witness and evidence. This keynote event brings together the acclaimed visual activist Zanele Muholi and leading critical theorists and literary scholars Sarah Nuttall and Thomas Keenan to speak to this idea of forensics as it relates to their own theoretical and methodological practices and writings. From the Oscar Pistorius Trial to the ongoing call for LGBT rights, the study and deployment of forensics has offered powerful platforms to bring to light injustices committed by the state and for mobilizing disenfranchised groups. This cross-disciplinary conversation is part of a two-day workshop that seeks to think through and with the relationship between the visual, written and performative arts and their interconnectivities to human rights discourse and practice—'the arts of human rights'.

This event is part of 'The Arts of Human Rights,' a workshop collaboration between Bard College and the University of Witwatersrand, 5-7 August 2014.
