Gabriella Razzano

Gabriella Razzano is the co-founder and Executive Director of OpenUp, a civic technology hub in Cape Town. She is also a Senior Atlantic Fellow on Social and Income Inequality, and an Advisor to the African AI Observatory. She is a human rights activist, lawyer, and researcher, specialising in themes of data and AI governance, digital rights and inequalities. She clerked with Justice Yacoob of the Constitutional Court, and has also worked with the University of Witwatersrand, as well as with domestic and international non-governmental partners. She was the Executive Director of a legal non-profit, the Open Democracy Advice Centre. She has contributed to the drafting of several regional instruments, such as the African Model Law on Access to Information, the African Declaration on Internet Rights and Freedoms, and the African Data Policy Framework. She was an Internet Governance Fellow, an alumni of the International Visitor Leadership Program (Global Digital Leader), and one of the Mail & Guardians Young South Africans, 2013.
