Maputo Conference Photograph, June 2018

The tenth session of the ongoing collaboration between the African Studies Center and the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research convened in Maputo over the space of four days in June 2018. Organised around the theme ‘Intellectual and Cultural Life under Conditions of Austerity’, the conference was hosted by the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane and by Kaleidoscopio, a social science research unit in Maputo. Twenty papers were presented, and the discussions—in Portuguese and in English—were lively and productive.
