Zoe Groves -- WiSER Post Doctoral Fellow wins new award

We are delighted that our WiSER post doctoral fellow, Zoe Groves, is one of a handful of WITS post doctoral fellows to be offered a prestigious post-doctoral fellowship funded by the University’s strategic fund, "SPARC".

This fellowship will extend her existing post-doctoral stay with Wits by another 12 months, allow her a more generous stipend, and a larger travel grant to present at an international conference.  In return Zoe will be expected to continue her exciting cross-border research programme on migration between Malawi, Zimbabwe and South Africa, and to continue to publish her research in credited journals. While she has been with WiSER Zoe has been an exemplary fellow --  highly active in seminars across the campus, in reading groups and in various research discussion fora; she has been active in mentoring masters and doctoral students from a number of Humanities disciplines at Wits and has initiated a Zimbabwe research reading group.

Recently Zoe was the runner up in the ASAUK best doctoral dissertation award. See  www.asauk.net/awards/thesis -- also the source of this image of Zoe.

Zoe is an enthusiastic participant in the cultural life of the city and of WITS  -- she is regularly seen at film events, debates, plays and music evenings. the city. An avid bike rider Zoe is part of a group helping to pioneer safer bike riding to and around campus.

In short Zoe is a model intellectual citizen of Wits and a warm and generous person.

We all congratulate you Zoe and are delighted you will be here for another year!
