A Luta Continua, 40 Anos Depois: Histόrias Entrelaçadas Da África Austral

Edited volume by Caio Simões de Araújo

Panel: Claudia Gastrow with Caio Simόes de Araújo

Chair:  Pamila Gupta

This book follows the international conference A Luta Continua, 40 years later. Entangled Histories and Legacies of Empire in Southern Africa, which was organised at IFAS-Research in 2015, 40 years after the independence of Lusophone Africa. It is published in the collection “Regards Croisés França/Moçambique”, run by the Franco-Mozambican Association of Social Sciences (AFRAMO-CHS). The book aims to promote a transnational history of Southern Africa through a reflection on entangled histories (histórias entrelaçadas), perfectly illustrated by the watchword of the Mozambican liberation movement “a luta continua” (“the struggle continues”). This sentence became a symbol of the transnational solidarities against oppressive and interlinked systems of power. The 11 chapters of the book revisit and discuss the historical and historiographical issues of Southern Africa’s decolonisation.
