Roundtable: Global South studies of, and responses to, Rape

Thursday, 4 July, 2013 - 15:30

Cage ImageEarlier in the year, in April, WiSER hosted a very well attended and spirited event about How to think about Rape in South Africa --  the format was a large panel with speakers from law, from rape crisis and research centres, from political history, feminist studies, philosophy, and from psychology, addressing the audience of researchers, academics, activists and students from across a wide range of disciplines

On July 3rd 4:00 to 5:30 pm at WiSER (6th floor Richard Ward Building) we will extend themes and issues raised at this event at a Roundtable Discussion on "Global South studies of, and responses to, Rape".

Our guest, the predominant Indian-based feminist scholar, Nivedita Menon, visiting the Centre for Indian Studies in Africa (CISA), will engage us, along with WITS colleagues working in this area, including several speakers from the first event.

We will gather at Wiser over coffee and tea and rusks in the later afternoon, to talk about how to research, act on, theorise, write about and teach about rape from the South.
