Hanieh is a Senior Lecturer in Development Studies at the school of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. Prior to joining SOAS, Adam taught at Zayed University, United Arab Emirates. From 1997-2003, he worked in the NGO and public sectors in Ramallah, Palestine, where he completed an MA in Regional Studies at Al Quds University. He holds a PhD in Political Science from York University, Canada (2009). Adam is an editorial board member of the journal Historical Materialism: Research in Critical Marxist Theory, a founding member of the SOAS Centre for Palestine Studies, and a member of the committee of Management for the Council for British Research in the Levant. His most recent book is Capitalism and class in the Gulf Arab States (Palgrave -Macmillan, 2011)
