Other Universals: India, Africa, the Caribbean and Un-national Thought of the Southern Hemisphere

Monday, 31 October, 2016 - 15:00

Presented by :

Collis-Buthelezi

Co-authored with my other co-convener of the Other Universals Workshop Series (Dr. Ruchi Chaturvedi), this paper will speak to anti-colonial modes of thought and resistance that did not dream toward nation-state formation, but rather offered counter-universalities (be it to western humanism or empire). In it, we will unpack "other universals" as a theoretical framework for understanding phenomena as varied as Pan-Africanism, Pan-Islamism, dalitism, blackness to name a few.
